چکیده

Quantifying the spatial extent, location and habitat associations of invasive tree species is critical to predict their future spread prioritise areas for management. Species–environment relationship analyses are useful tools understanding predicting potential geographical distribution these species; however, such require rigorous extensive data about presence and, crucially, area surveyed. Here, we describe a method performing ground-based visual surveys trees from set viewpoints that utilises laser rangefinder global navigation satellite system (GNSS) technology detect locations. We then highlight novel use information (GIS) viewsheds as tool define Using conifer, Pinus radiata, our target, undertook ground-truthing exercise 50 established in wild assess accuracy determine suitable resolution GIS would be used subsequent species–environment analyses. For trees, error was positively related distance viewpoint. The calculated locations all within 600 m observer were 25 determined by GNSS unit, with median 4 m. These results indicate mapping can efficiently collected over large areas. also outline suggestions instructions computing surveyed area. This approach allows efficient collection accurate on occurrence non-native land underpin form basis risk maps prone invasion. Given speed which obtained using this method, standard easily accessible field equipment software, recommend other invasion ecologists.

Combining Two Technologies to Improve Aviation Training Design

Combining two recent technologies can markedly improve the performance outcomes and cost-effectiveness of aviation training. The first is a well-tested design methodology for developing cognitive tutors (Anderson et al. 1995, Anderson and Schunn 2000) based on modern theories of skill acquisition. The second is the advent of high-fidelity PC-based part-task simulators on which pilots can “learn...

Fast Extrinsic Calibration of a Laser Rangefinder to a Camera

External calibration of a camera to a laser rangefinder is a common pre-requisite on today’s multi-sensor mobile robot platforms. However, the process of doing so is relatively poorly documented and almost always time-consuming. This document outlines an easy and portable technique for external calibration of a camera to a laser rangefinder. It describes the usage of the Laser-Camera Calibratio...

Construction of Laser Plane Rangefinder (LPRF)

The software tool supporting a implementation of a cheap laser plane range finder (LPRF) with rotary table and its calibration is presented. We were motivated by a dual-arm robotic manipulation with soft free-form objects, e.g. a piece of garment. We need a precise surface measurement also as a reference data for the precision estimation of other depth acquiring methods as stereo vision. A lase...

Laser Rangefinder Calibration for a Walking Robot

In rugged terrain, walking robots that select footholds can be more mobile and more energy efficient than machines that roll on wheels or crawl on tracks. To achieve these footholds requires calibration of the terrain sensors with respect to the walking mechanism. We present an implemented technique to calibrate scanning laser rangefinders to legged robots. The procedure accommodates two scanne...
